Spiced Pear Cobbler Recipe

This spiced pear cobbler with perfectly buttery crispy biscuit topping is easy to prepare and feeds a crowd. Using fresh pears, the deliciousness of this dessert comes primarily from the sweetness of the fruit and doesn't call for a huge amount of additional sugar. Make it up to 4 days ahead of time to entertain friends and family.

Things You\’ll Need

  • For the Pear Filling:

  • 3 lbs fresh pears, peeled, cored and chopped

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch

  • 3 Tbsp water

  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves

  • For the Cobbler Topping:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar

  • 1 Tbsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 5 Tbsp butter, melted

  • 1 cup whole milk

Step 1

Peel, core, and chop the pears. Then place them in a large mixing bowl.

Add the remaining ingredients for the pear filling and stir well to combine.

Transfer the pear filling mixture to a large casserole dish.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 375° F.

Add the dry ingredients for the cobbler topping to a mixing bowl (all-purpose flour, sugars, baking powder, cinnamon, and sea salt). Stir well to combine.

Add the melted butter and whole milk and stir just until combined (avoid over-mixing the topping).

Step 3

Top the pear filling mixture with the cobbler topping, creating either an even layer or biscuits.

Place casserole dish on the center rack of the preheated oven and bake 25 minutes. Decrease oven temperature to 325° F and bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes, until topping is golden-brown.

Serve cobbler with ice cream in bowls, and enjoy!
